Auditions for 2026
We will be holding general auditions from late August to October. If your application is successful, we will contact you to arrange a suitable audition date and time.
Auditions will be held at the ABC Southbank building in Melbourne.
Audition requirements
In the audition you will be asked to sing the following:
- A piece of your own choice lasting no more than 3 minutes, with written piano accompaniment. This should be a piece that is classical in nature, and that you know well and feel confident singing. It can be either a solo piece (an aria from an opera or oratorio, a hymn, a folk tune etc.) or an excerpt that is part of a choral work. Please do not prepare musical theatre or pop music.
- Vocal range exercises
- Aural tests
- A short piece of sight-reading. Ability to read music is a requirement of singing in the MSO Chorus.
An accompanist will be provided for you, as will access to warm-up rooms prior to your audition. Please ensure that your chosen piece has piano accompaniment, and that you bring a copy of the accompaniment for the pianist.
The audition will last no longer than 15 minutes.
